Board
History
The Certification Board is the only recognized private, state-based
certification board in New Jersey under contract with the State Department
of Human Services. The Board currently certifies approximately
1300 counselors, supervisors, preventionists, MICA specialists, case
managers, tobacco specialists and associates. We are a member
board of the International Certification Reciprocity Consortium of
Alcohol and Other Drugs (ICRC/AODA). As a member board, we
adhere to the reciprocal standards for certifications in use throughout
the world. The IC&RC promotes uniform professional standards
and maintains quality for the alcohol and drug counseling and prevention
field. The IC&RC has 73 member Boards throughout the world
that offer reciprocity for our credentials.
The board has been in
existence for several years. The Certification Board, founded in
1972, has had a contract with the
New Jersey Department
of Health, Division of Addiction Services since 1976. The current
Board is a merger of the formerly separate Alcohol and Drug Counseling
Boards. These two Board completed their merger in 1989 and evolved
from the Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse Counselor Certification
Board of New Jersey, Inc., to the Alcohol and Drug Counseling Certification
Board of New Jersey, Inc. to our current name as the Addiction
Professionals Certification Board Inc. |
