POSITION TITLE: Staff Nurse

DATE OF DESCRIPTION:
This is a standardized job description for VOADV. Specific functions may vary per facility.
General Functions:
The employee in this classification shall report to the Director of Nursing. The employee promotes and restores patients’ health by completing the nursing duties including collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members and providing physical and psychological support to patients.
Scope of Duties:
1. Interact with all clients, staff and community members with respect and courtesy.
2. Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, supervisory conferences and training sessions.
3. Maintain client and staff confidentiality in compliance with operational policies and procedures.
4. Orient and assess all new clients upon intake to determine nursing care needs.
5. Establish client care goals with client input to be included in the Service Plan.
6. Monitor and document client care services and progress according to funding source standards and/or operational policy and procedures.
7. Identify and/or develop resources and link clients to needed services.
8. Identify client care requirements.
9. Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against client care goals and standards, recommending necessary adjustments and following standards of care set by NJ State Nursing Board and other governing agency regulations.
10. Develop appropriate discharge plan on all assigned patients as per contractual requirements.
11. Coordinate medication administration (including maintaining medication log), storage procedures and controlled substance regulations.
12. Protect clients and employees by developing, implementing, interpreting and adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
13. Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with appropriate procedures, rules and regulations.
14. Ensure efficient operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, trouble shooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
15. Maintain nursing supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory levels, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of orders and using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
16. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.
17. Maintain cooperative relationships among outside health care professionals by communicating information, responding to requests and building rapport.
18. Facilitate scheduled workshops/programs/groups addressing patient’s needs.
19. Fulfill obligations of licensing requirements.
20. Complete all required reports and other documentation.
21. Conduct drug and alcohol screens as directed or needed and report results as directed.
22. Other duties as assigned.
ADA Essential Functions:
1. Occasionally required to smell, stoop.
2. Regularly required to use hands to handle or feel.
3. Regularly required to reach.
4. Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear.
5. Regularly required to lift and move up to10 lbs. Maybe required to lift and move up to 150lbs.

Credentials/Abilities:
The employees in this position must be an RN (Registered Practical Nurse) and be licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey. Employees in this position are required to have practical skills in communication, counseling processes and resource development. Additional job-related skills include: working with addictive personalities and a basic understanding of human behavior and issues affecting special needs and MICA populations. Employee must possess effective written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to interact appropriately with patients. Basic computer skills.
