People
Dear RICHARD,
The Board is celebrating its 35th anniversary and is proud to continue it's mission of providing the highest quality standards for counselors, supervisors, associates, mentors and prevention specialists. While recently undergoing major funding cuts, we want to assure that we will continue to offer all of the services we have in the past. This will call for creativity, patience and yes, some additional charges for some services.

New Certified Clinical Supervisor Job Task Analysis

The IC&RC introduced the new CCS Job task Analysis at last week's spring meeting. It is anticipated that an updated CCS Written Exam will be ready by December 2008.

The Job Task Analysis expands the role of the clinical supervisor to include some management domains. These new domains more accurately reflect the actual, as opposed to the ideal, role of the clinical supervisor in the current treatment field.
1. Counselor Development
2. Professional and Ethical Standards
3. Program Development and Quality Assurance
4. Performance Evaluations
5. Administration
6. Treatment Knowledge

Please check with the IC&RC on the availability of new study manuals for the CCS.

As this very recent JTA is being implemented prior to the new training material being made available, the Certification Board wants to remind you that the Board previously passed a motion allowing a "New Jersey only" associate CCS to be awarded after completing all requirements but the CCS written exam. This will not only give supervisors time to become familiar with the new domains, but will help our treatment programs meet guidelines.  Check the new CCS application on the Board's website.
The Board realizes that this may cause some confusion. Please contact me, rich, with questions.

New CPS Coursework

The Board's Prevention Advisory Committee has been busy for the last nine months writing learning objectives for the new CPS JTA released last summer. The work should be finished by this June when the new exam will be implemented. Advisory Committee members are Steve Liga, Lisa Daly, Norm Salt, Barbara Adolphe, Barbara Sprechman, Pamela Clark and Debby Aidelman, Board Member and committee chair.

NCADD now has additional scholarships available to offer though the end of June!

In addition to offering scholarships to individuals who want initial credit for CPS classes, we are now able to offer them to any LCADC, CADC, or CPS who needs renewal credits.  If you are employed or an active volunteer at an agency or organization funded by the Division of Addiction Services or earn less than $50,000 annually, you qualify!

If you qualify, please complete the tuition support application and submit it to NCADD of Middlesex County, Inc. along with your registration form to attend classes.  A list of classes that we are offering can be found on our website:  http://ncadd-middlesex.org/training/.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact Dena Charbonneau at 732-254-3344 X20
The CCJP is coming!

The IC&RC approved the Certification Board's application to begin the Certified Criminal Justice Professional credential in New Jersey. There are over 1800 reciprocal CCJP's in 27 Boards across the country. Check on the IC&RC website, www.icrcaoda.org/searchboards, for a list of the States.
The CJC will continue to be the primary New Jersey entry level CJ credential and will not require a test. CJC's will be able to transfer their credentials to a test exempt CCJP once the grand parenting period starts December 1, 2008. The grandparenting period will close on March 1, 2009, at which time the new testing and educational requirements will be in effect.
The CJC uses the same training and experience domains as the CCJP. We suggest that you keep you CJC active until the grandfathering period starts and then, if desired, transfer to the reciprocal CCJP, which offers many career opportunities across the country.

Co-Occurring Credentials:

The IC&RC will have a national exam for the CODS (Co-Occurring Disorder Specialist) and for the CODA (Co- Occurring Disorder Associates) this coming winter. As New Jersey has had these credentials for the past 10 years, all of our current CODS' and CODA's will be eligible for the reciprocal equivalents and be test exempt for a 90-day grandparenting period that will be announced in early November 2008. The Certification Board will continue to offer NJ only CODS' and CODA's that do not require a written exam.

Addiction Disability Specialist:

DAS will be funding the complete ADS coursework training through a contract with the Cerebral Palsy Association of New Jersey. Please click here for application and click here for a 4 page pdf with more information on the program.

Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist

The Tobacco Dependence Program at UMDNJ continues to offer its excellent five-day training course.   www.tobaccoprogram.org
The Tobacco Dependence Program is offering a 1-Day advanced training (for those that have completed the 5-Day Training) on Tuesday, May 20th from 9AM - 4PM.  The training is titled "Clinical Applications for the Latest Tobacco Dependence Treatment Medications."  The cost of the training is $75 (includes a light breakfast and lunch).  Continuing Education Hours provided for an additional $25.

The afternoon session will be structured as case presentations.  Feel free to bring a challenging case with you for open discussion.  Please see the attached flyer and feel free to contact me directly with any questions.

INCASE and the Foundation's Institute for Behavioral and Addiction Studies.

The Institute and INCASE (International Coalition for Addiction Studies Education) have partnered on a project that has developed a nationwide Approved Provider Status for Addiction Studies Programs that are part of a matriculated, degreed program. There is no additional charge for this review and a number of colleges, from within and outside of New Jersey, have submitted applications. This project will help to increase the number of formal academic programs for the CADC from Associate to Doctorate Degrees as well as establish a nationwide standard for academic addiction studies programs.
For further information contact us at the cert board.

Approved Instructors Training

The Foundation will be sponsoring training for those who wish to be approved to teach workshop courses for initial LCADC/CADC credit. This training will replace the Instructor Training that had been offered over the past two years. As the Foundation's contract with DAS was not renewed for this training, we will attempt to do one training to cover all of the Five Domains, plus extended coverage of the three new additions to Case Management Domain. This can be accomplished as a good part of each Domain Training in the past reviewed the same "boilerplate" for the first hour. This will then allow for each domain being afforded an hour of instruction, feedback and interaction with the group. This course will count towards recertification by the Certification Board. Already Approved Instructors will be encouraged to attend.

The Institute will provide the most recent referenced information from SAMHSA and other sources.
If you are interested in the training, please email me your name and email address and best time for a meeting contact us. I will schedule the date and location of the meeting depending on the response.

Counselors Group

The Foundation of Addiction and Behavioral Health Professionals is a non-profit 501 C-3 with a mission to enhance educational and workforce opportunities for counselors, including associates and mentors. We want to get your input into the needs of the field.
I will be scheduling a meeting for all of those interested in an open forum meeting to discuss issues common to the field in June. Please contact us re: counselor group for more information.

New Motions
The Certification Board passed new motions that will be of interest to you.
The first will allow all certification and recertification training to be conducted via distance learning.
· Please note that this does not apply to the LCADC or CADC, which allows only up to 54 hours of distance learning for initial credentialing. Please refer to the 13:34C Subchapter 5 for LCADC and CADC requirements that is published the new Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. The CDA will max out at a total of 54 hours of distance learning, as CDA coursework can be used for the CADC.
· This will not apply to the DRCC, CTTS or to the CPS at this time, as these credentials have adequate training available at this time. This is not so with our other credentials.
· All distance learning for initial certification must be pre- approved by the Certification Board. We will keep an active list of distance approved providers on our website once they become approved. We have several distance programs under review, but at this time none are officially approved.
· The rationale for this motion was that students are having a hard time finding accessible training for the Board's credentials in Supervision, Co-Occurring Disorders, Disability, Criminal Justice and Perinatal Addiction. Decreases in funding and less available time to pursue on site trainings were also noted as factors in this motion.

The second motion:
· Raises the fee for initial certification and recertificaiton from $150 to $175 per two-year period. This fee has not been raised in the past 14 years as the Board had received state funding to offset the actual cost of certification. This modest increase does not cover the true cost of credentialing and other Board activities will help offset this cost.
· The good news is that those with more than one Certification Board credential will have the price of the second and subsequent credentials decreased to $125. This is our way of rewarding your continued participation with our credentials.
